Karelian Bobtail Longhair - KAB

General  

Karelian Bobtail is a cat with a short kinked tail occurring naturally in the North-West of Russia. 

Points 

Head:

Shape  

Top of head 

Wedge-shaped;  viewed from the front,  forms an equilateral triangle. The top of the head is flat. 

Muzzle and chin 

The forehead and the cheeks are flat. The muzzle is narrow, with slightly pronounced whisker pads. The chin is narrow, but firm. 

Profile  

The profile line is long, almost straight.  

Eyes 

The eyes are oval and set at a slight slant. The colour is from gold to green, also blue and odd in white and white spotted cats. The eye colour shall be even.

Ears 

The ears are large and slightly tilted forward. They are set high on the head at a small angle so that the outer line of the ears runs along the cheeks. The tips are slightly rounded.

Size and boning 

The body is medium sized, neither stocky nor elongated.  The boning is sturdy but not heavy.

Torso 

Medium wide, the rump is not long, slightly raised. 

Neck 

Medium long. 

Legs and paws 

The legs are of medium length and solid, the hind legs are clearly longer than the front legs, the paws are round.

Tail 

The tail is kinked and/or bent and between 4 and at most 13 cm long. The fur on the tail is longer than on the rest of the body (pom-pom effect).

Length 

Medium long.  

Texture  

The top coat is firm and glossy, the soft undercoat well developed.

Colour 

The colours not belonging to the original gene pool (chocolate, lilac, cinnamon, fawn, caramel, sepia, mink and all pointed colours as well as their combinations with white) are not recognized. All other colours and patterns are recognized. Any amount of white is permitted.

Special breed faults 

Tail shorter than 4 cm.
Too arched back. 

 

Without certificates 

„Delayed bobtail“ effect.
Length of the tail more than 13 cm.
Only one vertebra in the tail.
Strong similarity to other bobtail breeds. 

 

Disqualify 

Total absence of tail vertebrae.
Straight (not kinked / curved) tail.
