Cornish Rex - CRX

General  

Cornish Rex is an elegant slender cat with a velvety wavy coat. It is the first ever rex mutation discovered in cats 

Points 

Head:

Shape  

Top of head 

Comparatively small and egg-shaped both frontally and in profile. Longer than wide, but not extremely long. Rounded between the ears.

Muzzle and chin 

The high cheekbones and smooth flowing contours contribute to the egg shape.  The muzzle tapers slightly to a round end. The prominent chin forms a vertical line with the tip of the nose. 

Profile  

Continuous convex curve in profile, starting from a pronounced back of head. Continuous convex curve in profile, starting from a pronounced back of head. A very slight change of direction at the nose is allowed if it doesn't break the egg shape.  

Eyes 

Large and oval, one eye width between them.  All eye colours are permitted. The eye colour shall be even; a harmonious combination with the skin colour is desired.

The ears are very large and deep with a broad base and slightly rounded tips. They are high set.

Size and boning 

The body is slender and lithe, optically of an almost square format due to the naturally arched back and long legs.

Torso 

The rib cage is deep but not broad. The underline curves slightly upwards.

Neck 

Elegant, long. 

Legs and paws 

The legs are long and slender; the paws are dainty and oval.  

Tail 

Very long, thin at the base and ends in a point.

Texture  

Wavy, very soft, silky and elastic due to the lack of guard hairs. The waves are tight and uniform. Whiskers and eye brows are crinkled.

All colours and patterns are recognized. Any amount of white is permitted.

Special breed faults 

Angular, flat head. 
Small eyes.
Small ears.
Long rectangular format of the body. 
Open coat, untidy waves are a small fault.  

 

Without certificates 

Short wedge.
Too heavy boning. 
Long coat.
Coat with guard hairs.
Bare patches are a severe fault. 

 

Disqualify 

Straight coat.
Fully naked cat. 

 

Remarks 

Absence of waves in kittens during development period is to be tolerated.
